Bianca Spender’s Summer & Resort 23 collection from deadstock

Bianca Spender, a leading Australian designer, presented her new Summer & Resort 23 collection from deadstock at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week. In Spender’s pursuit for sustainability, the style has never been compromised, and in fact, it seemingly goes further. Her latest work was impressively presented on the opening runway at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week (AAFW) on May 9. Long known as an environmental advocate who takes sustainable design action, Spender’s latest collection is her most socially conscious and provocative to date. With 90 percent of her latest release made from fabrics — destined for landfill.

Bianca Spender said, “I use deadstock fabrics as the basis for each collection and build the range from there. For me as a designer, this concept of upcycling fabrics has been a focus for many years, and this collection see’s the highest proportion of remnant fabrics used to date – this is something I am very proud of.”

Spender’s return to AAFW following four years of notable absence has filled a large (and loud) void in our premiere fashion event. Her time away from our local catwalks has enabled fruitful and flourishing designs and shown us the next stage of her exciting (and delicious) journey with sustainable silhouettes. And color. Neutrals are gone, as Spender has designed for dopamine. Electric oranges, luscious mangoes, verdant greens, soothing lavenders, and some classic black (for good measure) slid down the runway at Carriageworks Gallery I.
