Chinese cotton farmers use unmanned tractors & drones

Xinjiang-based Chinese cotton farmers are using unmanned tractors and drones to sow, spray pesticides, and harvest their agriculture farms.

Farmers normally use traditional methods of farming which involve manual labour and are time-consuming.

Now with the help of drones and high-tech equipment, cotton farmers can do any kind of work, whether sowing, spraying pesticide, or harvesting in a matter of hours and without using labour.

“Cotton farmers are using intelligent equipment such as unmanned tractors and drones, installed with a navigation satellite system, which reduces the time and labor cost of cotton planting,” media reports stated.

Unmanned tractors are used for cotton sowing and harvesting, while drones are used to spray pesticides and defoliants.

Media reports added that data from Xinjiang’s agriculture and rural affairs department revealed that 90 percent of cotton sowing and harvesting is being done by intelligent equipment and drones in the region.

About 90 percent of China’s total cotton production comes from Xinjiang which also accounts for 20 percent of all cotton produced in the world, which makes China the largest global cotton producer.
