Chinese cotton linter imports from India surge in August

In the month of August 2023, although overall import volumes of cotton linter dropped, cotton linter imported from Indian surged. Since the beginning of this year, Chinese cotton linter imports have been rising every month and even doubling in June and July, but they fell to 6.52 kilo tons in August, down 43.

54 percent month on month.

“However when compared to the first eight months of 2022, total imports of cotton linter between January and August 2023 stood at 49.44 kilo tons, a decline of 39 percent,” media reports stated. Among various countries, those from Indian increased in August to 4.17 kilo tons or a significant year on year increase of 89.32 percent and accounted for 64 percent of all cotton linter imports.



In the first eight months of 2023, cotton linter imports from India were around 20.62 kilo tons, up a massive 120.4 percent and accounted for 42 percent of all cotton linter imports.

India, Turkey and Brazil together accounted for 90 percent of all cotton linter imports in August alone, while they stood at 94 percent in the period between January and August 2023.
