Chinese imports of Australian cotton in fast lane

China imported around 1.38 million tons of cotton in the first ten months of 2023, down 12.7 percent year on year.

However, Chinese imports of Australian cotton rebounded by a significant 20 times between January and October 2023 to 192,000 tons.

Chinese imports of Australian cotton ranked just behind cotton imports from the US and Brazil.

It may be recalled that relationships between China and Australia had soured in 2022, due to which Chinese importers stopped or slowed down cotton imports from Australia.

But these relations have now recovered since the middle of 2023, due to which Chinese cotton importers have again started buying Australian cotton.
