In the first seven months of 2023, Chinese textile and garment exports reached US $170 billion, a decline of 10 percent compared to the January to July period of 2022.
Of this, textiles exports totaled $78.85 billion, down 11.9 percent from a year ago period, while apparel shipments touched 90.94 billion, dropping 8.3 percent from the same period in 2022.
“In July alone, total textile and clothing exports recorded a year-on-year sharp fall of 18.3 percent and stood at $27.11 billion,” data released by the General Administration of Customs.

Experts attribute the fall in July to declining overseas demand and a high base of 2022.
