In the euro area, the jobless rate also held firm at 6.2%, unchanged from May and marking a record low, down from 6.4% a year earlier. Eurostat reports approximately 12.97 million unemployed individuals across the EU, including around 10.7 million in the eurozone.

Between May and June, the EU saw a modest decline of 23,000 unemployed persons, while the euro area registered a larger drop of 62,000.

Year-over-year comparisons show significant improvements—125,000 fewer unemployed in the EU and 293,000 fewer in the eurozone compared to June 2024.

While overall joblessness stabilizes, youth unemployment remains a pressing concern. In June, 14.7% of young people under 25 in the EU were jobless, a rate that held steady from the previous month. In the euro area, youth unemployment dipped slightly to 14.1%, down from 14.3%.

Gender-specific trends reveal modest improvements: female unemployment decreased to 6.0% in the EU and 6.4% in the euro area, whereas male unemployment remained unchanged at 5.7% in the EU and 6.0% in the euro zone. These statistics reflect a labor market that is stable overall, yet continues to grapple with younger demographics and subtle gender disparities.
