The British brand, Finisterre, announced it released its first fully-circular jacket. The jacket has been built as an insulated outerwear piece, and the Biosmock can be layered under a waterproof jacket or worn as an outer shell. Constructed with a PrimaLoft Bio compostable shell, renewable and traceable HD Wool Apparel Insulation, and biodegradable fasteners, the jacket will compost at the end of its lifecycle.
Biosmock has been specially engineered to break down safely in the correct land and sea conditions at the end of its useful life.
Born over a decade ago from the needs of hardy British surfers, Finisterre designs functional and sustainable products for those that share a love of the sea.
At ISPO 2021, the company has won a Gold award for this circular design. ISPO Jury said, “This is the leading example of the Circular Economy in performance apparel. When all other items are trying to reduce their environmental footprint, this garment is climate-positive through using regenerative practices.
Finisterre is working closely with HD® Wool Apparel Insulation to incorporate their new filling material into the Biosmock’s design. Moreover, through their Woolkeepers® scheme, Finisterre gets full traceability of who grew our wool – right down to the four specific farms in South West England from which it has been sourced.
