German flat knitter, Astrifa adopts digitalisation without compromising on tradition

German flat knitter Astrifa GmbH claims to have significantly enhanced its production capabilities by installing Stoll’s latest Create Plus programming and design software.

Founded in 1948, Astrifa’s primary focus is producing a range of knitted jackets, pullovers, hats, and scarves in traditional costume style. The company operates an ultra-modern production facility that employs around 70 people, manufacturing around 700 items for men, women, and children weekly.

Its knitting hall consists exclusively of Stoll machines, including the latest ADF and CMS series models. Astrifa also relies on the latest developments for programming the machines and, therefore, employs Stoll’s Create Plus software alongside other patterning systems.

A total of 17 Stoll flat knitting machines are currently operating at Astrifa because of reliable all-around support says, an official of the company. Stoll’s Create Plus software combines a full-featured, advanced programming system with an easy-to-learn user interface, revolutionizing the programming of Stoll flat knitting machines.

New versions are released every four months, and in addition to many detailed improvements, the current release contains a greatly expanded system for multi-part knitting compared to the previous software and an extensive option for creating reports and statistics.

In an interview with Wolfram Geuppert, head of development, Knitwear Design Systems at Karl Mayer Stoll, Wohlfahrt explains that he has not yet switched over entirely due to his machinery but that he uses Create Plus to its full extent on his newer machines. Pattern creation as a project in conjunction with the design level and the line cuts are particularly relevant for him.
