Norwegian regulators have been denied information on the number of unsold clothing left in the Norwegian market by global fashion giant H&M. The fashion brand says that unsold clothing is not a piece of environmental information.
H&M says there may be tons of unsold clothing available in the Norwegian market; it cannot disclose the quantity as it is a trade secret. The Norwegian government is trying to map clothing outcomes in their domestic market. Though H&M is resisting disclosure, the Consumer Council and Future in Our Hands claim the brand H&M under the law must disclose this important environmental information. The Council has lodged a complaint in this regard with the Norwegian Board of Appeal for Environmental Information.
According to the reports, this is not the first time that H&M is having problems with the Norwegian consumer authorities. A few months back in the summer authorities had accused H&M of using the Higg label on clothing merely as part of greenwashing.
Besides H&M two other German Online Retailers ‘About You’ and Zalando have also reportedly refused to cooperate with the Norwegian authorities.
