Indian state of Tamil Nadu to set up ZLDs in its textile clusters

The southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu has plans to set up Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) plants in the various textile clusters of the state to ensure a green and clean environment.

Media reports quoted sources in the state government saying that INR 703 crores have been allotted for setting up these CETPs and ZLDs.

A committee of senior technocrats, including scientists has been constituted to finalize the standard operating procedures for establishing these new CETPs and ZLDs.

Tiruppur, which is India’s biggest knitwear manufacturing hub, has the maximum number of dyeing, bleaching, and fabric printing units in Tamil Nadu, followed by other textile hubs like Erode, etc.

Tamil Nadu also has the biggest capacity for spinning yarns in India or 47 percent of spindle capacity in India.
