ITMF to present awards for sustainability

For the first time, the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) will award‘ Sustainability and
Innovation’ and ‘International Cooperation’ in 2022. The international forum aims to support and promote
sustainable environmental, social, and economic production along the entire textile value chain. In the
Innovation & Sustainability category, ITMF will recognize sustainable and innovative achievements in the
textile industry, focusing on innovation, design, development, and production under the strictest sustainability
standards and respect for the environment.

Another important aspect in today’s complex world is the increased necessity to cooperate with different
partners from industry, research, and governments. Therefore, in the International Cooperation Objective,
ITMF will recognize progress in international collaboration in the textile industry according to the values of the
17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. US Congress

The jury will grant these awards to companies/organizations or persons which/who significantly improved
textile manufacturing through international collaboration, ITMF said in a press release. The deadline for
applications is January 29, 2022. The winners will be invited to present their achievements at the ITMF Annual approves import ban

A bill barring imports from China’s Xinjiang region unless US businesses can prove they were produced
without forced labour received final Congressional approval yesterday by US senators. The US
administration also announced fresh sanctions targeting several Chinese biotech and surveillance firms
and government entities for their actions in Xinjiang.

The Senate vote sends the bill to President Joe Biden. Press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden supported
the measure after months of the White House declining to take a public stand on an earlier version of the
legislation, a global newswire reported. The United States claims China is committing genocide in its
treatment of the Uyghur minority in Xinjiang. China has denied all such claims. Raw cotton, gloves,
tomato products, silicon and viscose, fishing gear and a range of components in solar energy are among
the goods alleged by the United States to have been produced with the help of forced labour in Xinjiang.
