Heimtextil 2025 opened the new trade fair year with a spectacular start and with its last day today, welcoming over 3,000 exhibitors from 65 countries. As the leading international trade fair for home and contract textiles, Heimtextil continues to grow steadily, reaffirming its status as a vital platform for industry leaders in the textile and design sectors. The fair is not only an exhibition space but also a global meeting point for businesses seeking innovative and sustainable solutions for the textile market.
This year’s event kicked off with a captivating installation titled “among-us” by renowned designer and architect Patricia Urquiola. Her thought-provoking design installation was unveiled at the opening press conference and is located in Hall 12.0. The installation embodies Urquiola’s vision for the future of textile design, merging traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge innovation.
Patricia Urquiola’s “among-us”: A Celebration of Hybrid Design
Urquiola’s installation “among-us” explores the evolving potential of textiles, merging the physical and virtual realms in a design that highlights materiality, functionality, and sustainability. The title “among-us” reflects the concept of collective togetherness, inviting visitors to experience the hybrid nature of modern textile design.
“The steady growth and the very high level of internationality confirm the strength of Heimtextil. As leading international trade fair for home and contract textiles and textile design, it is an indispensable partner for the global industry – this is more important today than ever before. Especially in challenging times, Heimtextil offers companies the opportunity to strengthen their market position: through international visibility, the identification and realisation of potential and the development of new global business partners”, says Detlef Braun, Member of the Executive Board of Messe Frankfurt.
The installation showcases several pieces made specifically for Heimtextil, such as a hanging carpet created with the dhurrie technique, alongside other unique textile objects designed in collaboration with partners like Kettal, Moroso, cc-tapis, Aquafil, and Cimento®. Urquiola’s work illustrates how textiles can serve both aesthetic and functional roles, enhancing living spaces, retail environments, and hospitality settings. The combination of abstract shapes like sofas and upholstered sculptures, paired with virtual displays, presents a fascinating dialogue between the real and digital worlds.
“Among-us is a convivial and intuitive textile installation that shows the evolving possibilities of textiles, exploring their hybrid potentials across various scales,” Urquiola explained. “It celebrates new relationships between materials and technologies, where traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary design.”
