Pakistan railways face criticism from KCCI after holding Gul Ahmed textile mill’s yard without a legal court order

Pakistan Railways has taken unfair measures against Gul Ahmed Textile Mills Limited by seizing the mill yard that was procured legally. This sealing was done without any court issued order. The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) heavily criticize this action and sides with Gul Ahmed on the matter.

An appeal has been submitted to the Prime Minister Imran Khan and to the Sindh Governor Imran Ismail as well by the KCCI President M Shariq Vohra to take action against the malpractices of the Pakistan Railways or else, thousands of workers working for Gul Ahmed will lose their jobs. The mill stored all of their cotton stocks at Pakistan Railway’s Land, the yard secured legally was stored there as well but was sealed probably due to the ongoing anti-encroachment drive, says the KCCI President.

“When the management of Gul Ahmed assured to abide by whatever the honorable court decides in this matter, it was unfair to refrain them from taking away cotton stocks from the yard. Prompt intervention by the PM and governor in this matter would ensure smooth operations of the factory and save thousands of jobs. The Karachi Chamber fully supports Gul Ahmed’s legitimate demand to allow access to its raw material so that its workers remain at work, export operations continue without any disruption and the shareholders remain confident about the mill’s performance,” M Shariq Vohra stated and further added that as Gul Ahmed is considered to be one of the top textile product exporters, Pakistan’s government also holds a share through NIT & NIC in Gul Ahmed Textile Mills.
