New export package will be launched under the textile policy for the promotion of country’s export and local production

To advertise and develop the local production and export of Pakistani products, an extensive package for textile and apparel value chain has been designed by the government and is expected to announce with and as a part of the textile policy which targets various sectors.

The sectors are carpets, cotton, weaving and processing, manmade fibres, natural fibres, ginning, spinning, knitting, apparel and made-ups/home textiles, and handicrafts. Hand woven category of Carpets will be given special attention and importance as they show great potential and are a value-added made-up industry of the country.

Up until the progression and expansion of the sectors mentioned above, the raw and semi-processed materials will be under in zero import tariffs. Moreover, there’ll be zero duty fee on the products that are not manufactured locally such as MMF. A committee would be dedicated to this project to overlook the developmental progress of wool, jute, silk, hemp, and other natural fiber-based textiles and apparel value chain.

It has been observed that Pakistan has an edge of lead time advantage through the value-added export-oriented sectors over its competitors due to the availability of yarn and fabric. Moreover, the big shares in the large-scale manufacturing of spinning, knitting, weaving and processing sectors also contributes.

Moreover, the policy features a shift to increase and encourage the participation of women for the expansion of the clothing industry. Therefore, the labor laws will be revised again by the commerce ministry to allow women to work in three shifts. The industry will try their best to cooperate by offering assistance through transportation services, day-care center etc.
