Piana nonwoven products are now certified for their sustainable efforts

Piana Technology now earns Recycled Claim Standard Certification (RCS) for utilizing recycled materials to produce nonwovens. Piana is a 439-year-old textile company known for innovations within the fiber and nonwoven textiles markets. The Piana family began work in the textile business in 1582 in Biella, Italy. The family business evolved into dyeing fiber in 1950 for the traditional apparel business. In 1995, Tintoria Piana opened in Cartersville, GA, to dye fiber for the American textile market, serving traditional textiles markets for apparel and some home furnishings.

Recycled Claim Standard Certification (RCS) is is an internationally recognized standard developed by Textile Exchange that verifies recycled content and tracks it throughout the supply chain to the final product. RCS certification has increased the use of recycled content across the textile industry. A recycled content claim may only be made for materials that have been recovered or otherwise diverted from the solid waste stream. The certification process requires partners to meet standard compliance at each stage of the supply chain, beginning with the raw material (or recycling) suppliers and ending with the final seller in a business-to-business transaction.

PIANA VERTICAL TECHNOLOGY is the company’s innovative technology that differentiates its products from the market competitors. The technology offers the following key advantages:
• Higher compressional resistance than those made of fibers oriented parallel to the fabric area
• When compressed, vertically lapped nonwovens can sustain 30-60% bigger thickness and thermal resistance
• Benefits can yield lighter nonwovens with equal properties to heavier traditional cross lapped nonwovens
