The Marchi & Fildi Group, Italy, refurbished their dyeing process in 2018 with a EUR 1.5 million investment for reducing their carbon footprint. The results to quantify the dyeing process’s energy consumptions at the group’s Magnonevolo, Biella, plant were promising.
The environmental benefits associated with this process for each kilogram of dyed yarn can be quantified on average as follows
– 48% less water consumption
– 57% less energy consumption
– 43% less steam used to warm up the water
– 38% lower total consumption of resources used in the whole dyeing process
Before this modification, the average consumption of water in one year was 105 million liters. Now, the plant’s annual water consumption has been reduced to 55 million liters per annum. Concerning annual gas consumption, the average saving is about 580,000 cubic meters per year.
Marchi & Fildi is an international company with an annual turnover of over EUR 65 million and an average annual growth rate of 9%. The group focuses on producing worsted and carded yarns for hosiery, circular knitting, and weaving with ring-spun, core-spun, Siro-spun, worsted, and open-end technologies. The group is also the inventor of the ECOTEC dyeing process, which saves the environment by creating new yarns by upcycling pre and post-consumer textile clippings and plastic bottles.
