UK suspected to ban imports coming from Xhina’s Xinjiang region

Xinjiang, one of the biggest regions of China and neighbors to Pakistan and Afghanistan have come under fire for human rights violations that have proven to be true. The major ethnic group of this region is Uighurs. In the recent years, almost one million Uighurs have been forcefully taken and imprisoned in what the Chinese call as “political re-education camps”.

Countries are now becoming aware of these monstrous activities and have started boycotting the imports coming from Xinjiang and China. Due to the suspected forced labor, Britain is expected to announce the law that will ban all the imports coming in from Xinjiang. Dominic Raab, Foreign Secretary, will soon disclose UK’s plan.

Both the countries relationship has already gotten cold over the span of two years and this new law will put more strain on the severed ties. Britain has already called out on Xinjiang and condemned their behavior towards the Uighurs and the forced cotton-picking though these allegations were quickly denied.

This concern of UK’s stems from the fact that 25 percent of the world’s cotton supply comes from Xinjiang where forced labor is openly taking place and the textile industry is not keeping track of whether the goods they are getting are made from tainted cotton or not.
