US completes 50 years of relations with Bangladesh by opening trade office

The United States has marked the completion of 50 years of its relations with Bangladesh by opening a commercial service office in Dhaka.

Addressing the media at the Sonargaon Hotel in the capital, US assistant secretary of commerce Arun Venkataraman said: “As the United States and Bangladesh celebrate 50 years of bilateral relations, it is an opportune moment to expand upon the strong foundation of our bilateral and commercial relationship.”

He said the US is supporting Bangladesh in its efforts to achieve sustainable and broadly shared prosperity, improve labor standards, expand and diversify Bangladesh’s economy, and open it to greater regional and global trade and connectivity.

The US and Foreign Commercial Service is the export promotion arm of the International Trade Administration (ITA), a bureau of the US department of commerce.
