U.S. upland cotton sales took a dramatic hit during the week ending July 10, 2025, according to the latest USDA weekly export sales report. Net sales for the 2024–25 marketing year dropped by a staggering 93% from the previous week, reaching only 5,500 running bales (RB). This figure is also 89% below the four-week average, signaling sharply reduced demand from global buyers.
Despite new purchases from Vietnam (7,600 RB), Peru (5,900 RB), Bangladesh (1,200 RB), Turkey (500 RB), and Indonesia (400 RB), overall gains were overshadowed by major cancellations.
Pakistan led the list of withdrawals with 5,900 RB canceled, followed by Thailand (2,300 RB), Japan (900 RB), Italy (700 RB), and South Korea (500 RB).
Export shipments of upland cotton also declined, totaling 156,400 RB—a 35% week-on-week drop and 29% below the four-week average. The leading export destinations were Vietnam (54,500 RB), Turkey (28,500 RB), Pakistan (12,400 RB), Mexico (11,500 RB), and India (11,100 RB).
Pima cotton also saw weaker demand, though less severe.
Net sales for the week totaled 2,600 RB, down 25% from the prior week but still above the four-week average. India was the top buyer (2,400 RB), followed by Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Thailand. Cancellations from Italy offset part of this demand. Additionally, 3,400 RB were booked for the 2025–26 marketing year.
Exports of Pima cotton fell to 7,900 RB—55% below the previous week and 20% under the four-week average. India, Peru, Egypt, Pakistan, and China were the main destinations.
