Vietnam is one of few countries that managed to survive Covid-19 without sinking through their Textile and apparel industry. They acted quick on their feet and started the production of face masks and personal protective equipment.
However, in 2021, the focus will now be on the production of sportswear and yarn according to the Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group.
The Thanh Cong Textile Garment Investment Trading JSC is now one of the most successful businesses in 2020 thanks to seizing opportunities to export COVID-19 related apparel products such as fabric masks and PPE.
Company’s deputy general director, Tran Nhu Tung said that as expected, since the era of Covid-19 is hopefully coming to an end, the production rate and incoming orders for cloth masks and protective gear is significantly decreasing day by day. As of this year, the company is not taking in any more orders for medical protective gear and antibacterial masks.
The new focus is on casual products such as T-shirts and sportswear. It is anticipated that the demand for these two categories will only increase. There are already enough orders booked in for sportswear for the first 6 months of the year.
According to the Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, many businesses now have orders for until the end of April, mainly for sportswear.
The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) that took effect on August 1 last year has reduced tariffs on Vietnam’s garment exports by more than 70 percentage points. The footwear and textile sectors also benefit significantly from tariff cuts.
