Thai Acrylic Fibre Co Ltd (TAF) becomes the first acrylic fiber company to become Bluesign partner

Thai Acrylic Fibre Co Ltd (TAF) has become the first acrylic fiber company to become Bluesign System Partner. Thai acrylic fiber is a part of Aditya Birla Group, India. The Bluesign system is the key to sustainable textile production. It eliminates harmful substances right from the beginning of the manufacturing process and sets and controls standards for an environmentally friendly and safe production. This ensures that the final textile product meets very stringent consumer safety requirements worldwide and provides confidence to the consumer in acquiring sustainable development.

Incorporated in 1987, TAF produces more than 30 different specialty fibers, including technical fibers for high-end applications. Marketed under the brand name Birlacril™, the product range comprises various acrylic fibers used to make sweaters, blankets, carpets, upholstery, soft toys, and awnings. The Thai Acrylic Fibre plant is also one of the greenest, cleanest, and most environment-friendly acrylic fiber plants globally. From an installed capacity of 14,000 TPA, the company has grown consistently to reach 108,000 TPA.

Thomas Varghese, business head of Acrylic Fiber and Overseas Spinning & Domestic Textiles, Aditya Birla Group, said, “Five years ago, TAF started its sustainability journey. Since then, we have been recording improvements in different aspects of sustainability every year, and we believe that TAF is now successfully aligned with our Group’s sustainability vision. Becoming a Bluesign System Partner is one of the most important milestones of this journey, and we thank the Bluesign team for being highly cooperative and understanding throughout the whole audit process.

Bluesign CEO, Ms. Jill Dumain, said, “We welcome TAF to Bluesign family as a Bluesign System Partner. We were highly impressed by TAF throughout the assessment process. It was great to work with a team of knowledgeable, motivated, and highly professional people. We are happy to be a part of TAF’s sustainability journey and rate them highly as one of the responsible fiber companies we have in our industry.”
