Japanese textile and garment imports peak in August

Japanese textile and garment import volume touched an eight-month high in August growing 16.4 percent month-on-month, but declined 13.

7 percent year-on-year to reach 231,600 tons.

Specifically, textile and apparel imports from China totaled 128,000 tons, down 9.4 percent from a year ago period, but rose massively by 25.8 percent over the previous month.



Of total Japanese textile and clothing imports from China in August, garment imports touched 102,000 tons, growing by a considerable 44 percent over July.



Imports of textiles from China were 62,000 tons, down 12 percent over August 2022, but a significant increase of 60 percent month-on-month.

Of total Japanese textile and apparel imports in August, those from China accounted for 55 percent of overall imports.
