US cotton export update: Upland sales rise, Pima declines

Upland Cotton Sales Increase
For the week ending April 24, 2025, U.S. net sales of upland cotton reached 108,400 running bales (RB), marking a 4% increase from the previous week but a 21% decrease from the four-week average. Key buyers included Malaysia (25,600 RB), Bangladesh (25,400 RB), and Vietnam (15,200 RB), with some reductions from Hong Kong, China, South Korea, and Guatemala.

Pima Cotton Sales Decline
In contrast, Pima cotton sales fell to 13,200 RB, a significant drop from previous weeks. Export shipments for Pima cotton totaled 3,900 RB, a 73% decrease, primarily to India, Egypt, and Peru.

Export Shipments Rise
Overall, U.S. cotton export shipments increased to 366,000 RB, up 25% from the previous week and 5% from the four-week average. The primary destinations were Vietnam (108,000 RB), Turkiye (96,100 RB), Pakistan (52,300 RB), and Bangladesh (28,100 RB).

Seasonal Outlook
The USDA’s report indicates that while upland cotton exports remain strong, Pima cotton exports have declined sharply. This trend may influence market dynamics and pricing in the coming weeks.
