A few leading fashion brands have decided to boycott Black Friday

A few leading fashion brands have decided to boycott Black Friday while lodging their protests against mass consumerism by not offering traditional Black Friday sales.

These companies included Teemill, Poshmark, REI Co-op, and The Ordinary. Instead, they are promoting sustainability, circular textile, and eco-friendly approach among consumers by advocating for ‘recycling your shirts’, stressing the concept of ‘Secondhand Sunday’, closing their outlets to discourage spending spree, and urging the consumers to celebrate “Slowvember” instead of Black Friday.

GreenMatters, a leading climatic leader organization, has urged consumers to support the cause by avoiding overconsumption, which is a major factor in the climate crisis. It has pleaded for boycotting Black Friday — aka not shopping the sales on Nov. 25, saying that it is one way to take a stand against the holiday and all it stands for.

Meanwhile, a group of environmentalists and trade unionists has planned a protest outside a Manchester-based company Boohoo, forcing the management to reduce climatic impacts and pay a living wage to its workers. The company is a fast fashion giant, which had offered a 99 percent discount on its already low prices, a theme which irked the environmentalists to protest outside the company’s headquarters.

Also, the activists are planning to protest outside Amazon to turn Black Friday into Make Amazon Pay Day instead of squeezing every last drop from the bodies of supply chain workers.
