The BGMEA president Hassan negated the impression said that labour is cheap in Bangladesh, rather it is competitive. Bangladesh in recent years has expanded markets in Japan, India, South Korea, Australia, and Russia. He informed the media that exports to Japan crossed $1 billion last fiscal and this year Bangladesh apparel exports to India are also expected to touch $1billion. The thrust of the exporters is on non-cotton items more acceptable in new markets.

The BGMEA expects Bangladesh to increase its share in the global apparel market from 6.8 percent to 10 percent by 2025. Bangladeshi readymade garments companies the BRGMEA said would benefit if India’s offer for free transit to Bangladesh for exporting goods to other nations is taken up.

During the Made-in-Bangladesh week, the 37th World Fashion Convention of the International Apparel Federation (IAF) will be held in Dhaka as part of the week. This fashion convention will be held marking the 50th anniversary of the IAF.
