Brazilian 2023-24 cotton output forecast to reach 3.29mn tons

According to a forecast from a Brazilian cotton trade body, the country’s cotton production will be 3.29 million tons in the 2023-24 season, up 2 percent over the previous season.

The Brazilian Association of Cotton Producers (ABRAPA) also estimated a growth of 8.4 percent in the area planted with cotton, at 1.81 million hectares. However, the first survey for the 2023/24 cotton harvest carried out by the National Supply Company (CONAB) projected cotton output at 3 million tons and sowing area at 1.71 million hectares.

ABRAPA also revised upwards the cotton production estimate for the 2022-2023 harvest to 3.23 million tons as against the 3.07 million tons forecast at a previous meeting held on June 30. The 3.23 million tons represents an increase of 26.5 percent compared to the last harvest of 2021-22.
