China pledges long-term partnership to green Bangladesh’s textile industry

At the Bangladesh–China Green Textile Expo (BCGTX) 2025 in Dhaka, Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen announced that the two nations are entering a new phase of development cooperation focused on sustainability and industrial decarbonisation. Marking the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, the envoy said Beijing aims to become Bangladesh’s long-term partner in green transformation, particularly within the textile and apparel sector—the backbone of Bangladesh’s exports.

“The direction of the global economy is very clear: countries investing in green capacity today will lead tomorrow’s trade,” Yao stated, adding that China sees environmental upgrading not as compliance but as strategy.

The ambassador outlined areas for collaboration, including energy-efficient machinery, low-impact dyeing, digital automation, and recycling-based production models. He said China is ready to support investments, facilitate university and industry partnerships, and share climate technologies to accelerate the sector’s transition.

Yao underscored that global buyers increasingly demand verifiable carbon accountability, making sustainability an industrial advantage rather than a cost. “Bangladesh’s future competitiveness will depend on how fast it embeds climate resilience into its value chain,” he noted.

Running from 23–25 October at the International Convention City Bashundhara (ICCB), the expo brings together 80 exhibitors showcasing green machinery, materials, and manufacturing innovations. Organisers and industry leaders described the event as the start of Bangladesh’s green transformation, positioning the country to emerge as Asia’s frontrunner in sustainable textiles by 2030.
