Chinese cotton yarn imports grow significantly by 41.9% in 2023

Chinese cotton yarn imports totaled 1.55 million tons in 2023, a massive increase of 41.9 percent compared to 1.09 million tons in 2022.

The lowest import volume for the year was reported at 55,200 tons in January 2023, while at 175,000 tons, September recorded the highest volume in the earlier year.

Vietnam was the most significant cotton yarn source, reaching 667,300 tons, down 56 percent from 2022, and accounted for 43 percent of the total cotton yarn imports in 2023.

Pakistan ranked as the second most significant source of imports at 270,000 tons and accounted for 17 percent of total imports, up from 13 percent in 2022.

India followed closely in the third position with imports at 248,000 tons, accounting for 16 percent of total yarn imports, four times the import volume in 2022 when it stood at just 56,400 tons.

In the reporting period, cotton yarn imports from Uzbekistan touched 130,000 tons, accounting for 8 percent of overall import volumes and 150 percent of the import volume in 2022.
