China-based Handa Industries that manufacturers apparel has shown interest in establishing a Man-made fibres (MMF) factory in Bangladesh. It has requested Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), facilitate its approval.
The Vice President of Handa Industries Deng Peilei met BGMEA acting President Md Shahidullah along with MN Inter-Fashion Ltd General Manager Takashi Nakahashi Azim at BGMEA Complex on February 19 and expressed their willingness to establish the plant. They discussed the market potential of MMF-based apparel that fetch higher value than cotton garments.
The delegation was informed that the garment sector of Bangladesh has already started adding more MMF products to its apparel production and is currently dependent on the import of MMF from other countries. The BGMEA official also told the visitors that Bangladesh has set a target of $100 billion in apparel exports by 2030. This he said would be possible if the share of MMF in its garments is increased to a higher level. He promised all-out support to the prospective investor in establishing an industry that would make major apparel input available locally.
Handa Industries exports apparel worth over $2 billion to the EU. It has its own manufacturing units in China, Myanmar, and Egypt. The Japanese buying house MN Inter-Fashion Ltd has been sourcing apparel from Bangladesh for over six years.
