Chinese textile sector unveils life cycle assessment tool

The Chinese textile and garment industry launched a textile life cycle assessment tool named the LCAplus platform at the China Apparel Conference 2023.

The LCAplus platform is expected to help promote China’s textile and apparel industry towards a greener and more sustainable future.

The LCAplus platform provides strong support for enterprises to trace environmental data throughout the process and the China Textile Information Center has completed the work of complete on-site real-life data collection.



The center has also evaluated the supply chain for 32 brands and 102 consumer textiles, involving 173 suppliers, covering 13 fibre types and 6 types of spinning yarns.



It also covers 24 yarn count types, 2 fabric weaving methods, and 3 dyeing methods, covering multiple textile and apparel segments like clothing, bedding, fabrics, and yarns.

In the next step, the China Textile Information Center will carry out trials of the LCAplus platform for key enterprises and further optimize the functions of the platform based on the feedback.

It will also provide application scenarios for the ‘Technical Specifications for Textile Carbon Labeling’ and ‘Technical Specifications for Carbon Neutral Textile Evaluation’ standards.
