The Commerce Ministry of Pakistan has proposed a comprehensive roadmap aimed at boosting the country’s textile and apparel industry. The plan, presented to Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, includes both short- and long-term strategies designed to enhance the sector’s global competitiveness and export growth.
Despite global economic challenges, Pakistan’s textile sector showed resilience, with a 9.3% growth in exports during the first eight months of FY 2024-25, including a 19% surge in apparel exports.
The proposed measures focus on reducing manufacturing costs, scaling production, and diversifying into high-value technical textiles.
The plan also aims to address non-tariff barriers, explore new markets, and encourage collaboration between academia and industry. Additionally, the importance of sustainability and innovation in cotton production was highlighted, including the use of climate-resilient seeds and mechanized harvesting methods.
Minister Jam Kamal emphasized Pakistan’s potential to lead in the textile sector due to its complete value chain, urging the implementation of strategic reforms to unlock further growth. With a focus on enhancing value-added exports and optimizing local resources, the roadmap aims to enable Pakistan’s textile industry to compete more effectively on the global stage.
