Twelve European textile companies, led by Reju, have formed the European Circular Textile Coalition, demanding that the EU adopt binding measures to accelerate the shift toward a fully circular textile economy. Their newly issued manifesto argues that voluntary corporate initiatives have fallen short of reducing waste and that only enforceable regulation can align recycling, manufacturing, and market uptake.
The coalition’s plan rests on three core pillars: rebuilding a competitive European textile chain through local production; prioritising textile-to-textile recycling from post-consumer waste; and mandating minimum recycled content in new garments. Signatories such as Resortecs, Utexbel, and European Spinning Group stress that without industrial-scale recycling capacity, even well-intentioned EU policies risk remaining symbolic.
Reju CEO described the coalition as a vehicle for “collective system change,” inviting wider participation from brands and recyclers alike.
The manifesto’s message is clear: Europe’s textile transition will succeed only if circularity becomes a legal requirement, not a corporate choice.
As Brussels finalises legal instruments on sustainable and circular textiles, pressure is mounting for legislation that embeds recycling, traceability, and regional production into the continent’s next industrial model—turning circularity from ambition into obligation.
