Gov. making policies for enhancement of textile production-said Ansari

After the long going devastating condition of the textile industry of Pakistan and stressing decrease in the exports of the sector, the government of Pakistan is now planning short as well as long-term policies to boost the production process of the textile sector in Pakistan.

The state minister of commerce and textile, Haji Mohammad Akram Ansari stated that the government is formalizing policies, focusing specifically on enhancing the production of textile sector. While speaking on an occasion, in Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday, 19 August 2017, he said that the government had solved many problems faced by the textile industry with the help of comprehensive strategies. The minister also assured that the textile ministry is planning to extend the facilitation to the textile sector.

While speaking on the occasion he said that; “the Pakistani textile sector was facing issues like load-shedding, high energy costs, high markups and a shortage of gas etc. but these were resolved.” Now the challenge is to cope with the high costs of doing business and the delay in the payments to tax refunds claims.

He also requested the president of FCCI, Mohammad Saeed Sheikh to formalize a committee consisting of all the stakeholders tasked to float the short and long term proposals to make ways for putting these issues to the Prime Minister for immediate action. While showing his concerns to the declining textile industry he said that; “we must focus on the value addition with conscious efforts made, with an aim to reduce the cost of doing business.” He also said that this is the responsibility to the stakeholders to take care of the matter.

Assuring the industry he said that he will discuss the matter with the Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi in his upcoming meeting, here on Tuesday. He further said that he will address the issues related to Rs 180 billion textile packages and the release of the remaining amount, the issues faced by the textile industry that is linked up with the Federal Board of Revenue and the Ministry of Textile and make sure that his ministry to extend the facilitation to the sector. He also assured to talk about and solve the issues related to the gas and electricity tariffs in Punjab and Sindh.
