H&M Group’s Weekday released a limited collection of women’s jeans made with unique regenerated textile fibers

H&M Group is always in the news when the talk is about sustainability. The group’s Weekday launched a rare collection of women’s jeans crafted using Infinna. The Infinna fibers are unique regenerated textile fibers produced by Infinited Fiber Company.

Kirsi Terho, IFC’s key account director, said, “Lots of different garments have been created with Infinna in the past to demonstrate how our regenerated textile fiber works in different fabric applications from T-shirts to hoodies to dress shirts to jeans. But these are the first garments that are available for anyone out there to purchase.”

Infinna fibers can boast the soft and natural look and feel of cotton, but it is created out of 100 percent textile waste. The biodegradable component is produced by liquifying the cellulose in its feedstock and respinning it into the fiber. Any non-cellulosic materials in the raw material, like polyester, elastane, and dyes, are removed in the process.

The benefits of Infinna fibers are:
• Born from waste and fully circular
• An alternative to virgin cotton
• Contain only natural ingredients
• Completely biodegradable and have no microplastics
• Soft and natural to the touch
• takes a fraction of the water needed to produce a similar amount of cotton
• Better dye uptake than cotton or viscose
• tested and proven for production of yarn counts from Ne8 to Ne40

Though the Infinna in Weekday’s jeans is made from textile waste, IFC’s technology can also use other cellulose-rich waste streams, like cardboard, paper, wheat, or rice straw, as its raw material. In this collection, only 64 pairs of jeans have been offered to purchase.
