JICA to provide technical assistance to textile ministry

The Federal Minister for Textile Industry Abbas Khan Afridi held a high level meeting with Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) today. The Director General of JICA informed the Minister that JICA would be providing technical experts to the Ministry for marketing, vocational training for women, and capacity building of garment technology institutes. He stated that at present, three initiatives had been identified; one each at the Ministry of Textile Industry, the Faisalabad Garment City and Pakistan Knitwear Training Institute, Lahore, but these will begin next year after formalities have been completed at their level.

The Minister thanked the JICA delegation and assured them of all possible help and facilitation. He further stated that the upcoming textile policy will focus on skill enhancement and export promotion for which JICA’s support would be crucial. The Minister also informed JICA delegates that In addition to provision of training to 120,000 workers, the Ministry would be launching an internship programme in collaboration with APTMA.

Secretary Textile Industry Rukhsana Shah along with the RDA team of the Ministry, Chief representative JICA Mitsuyoshi Kawasaki, Representative JICA Tomohiro Azegami and Dr Haroon ur Rashid attended the meeting.
