Labour organizations active to highlight human rights violations in the textile industry

The labour organizations operating in the textile industry of both South and South East Asia are excessively utilizing internet facilities to highlight the human rights violations in their respective countries. It leads to punitive actions by the principal buyers in Europe and other destinations against their suppliers in both regions.

Leading labour organizations including Action Labour Right (ALR) Myanmar, Deriteks Myanmar, C.CAWDU, a Cambodian trade union, Worker Rights Consortium (WRC) – US based labour advocacy group, Garment Labour Union India, Garment and Textiles Workers Union (GATWU) – an Indian trade union; Clean Clothes Campaign (CCC) – a European advocacy group, Gerakan Rakyat Anti Korupsi Indonesia (GERAK Indonesia) – local NGO located in Central Java, Indonesia, Independent Federation of Workers of Honduras (“FITH”), La Federación Independiente de Trabajadores de Honduras (FITH), Maquila Solidarity Network (MSN), PAHAM Indonesia (Pembebasan Hak Asasi Manusia) – a local NGO, FSPKI – a union national federation in Indonesia, SBTGS – an Indonesian trade union, Sentral Gerakan Buruh Nasional (SGBN) – a national union federation in Indonesia, Sindicato de la Industria Textil Salvadoreña (SITS) – a trade union, WIND Institute (SÜDWIND), Sedane Labour Resource Centre (LIPS),  Stichting Schone Kleren Kampagne/ Clean Clothes Campaign – labour advocacy groups, Tomas Borges Martinez – a Trade Union-Factory Union, SITRAPINEHURST- a Factory Union, The Federation of Independent Associations and Unions of El Salvador, (FEASIES)-National Trade Union Federation and many more are actively engaged in highlighting the human rights violations to the principle brands through emails and other online sources. 

Also, the principal buyers in the EU and US receive emails from undisclosed sources loaded with complaints against human rights violations, which leads to thorough investigations to redress the issues confronting the textile workers. Monetary compensations, reinstatements, severance payouts, back wages, mandated training, implementation of workplace standards, freedom to join trade unions.

Recently, the leading German brand Adidas has launched investigations against one of its suppliers in Myanmar after receiving a complaint against mass dismissals.
