LESCO assures uninterrupted power supply to APTMA

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) Shahid Haider has assured APTMA of uninterrupted electricity supply to the whole industry especially export oriented units.

He was speaking to the leading exporters during his visit to APTMA office, Lahore on Thursday. CEO LESCO said the Company can generate revenue only if the industry in the country is operational on full capacity. He said the data suggests that a consumption of 605 million units has been reduced in the LESCO region with the closure of major industries due to the phenomenon of high tariff.

He further pointed out that the industry connections are being installed on priority without any delay in order to keep the jobs of textile workers intact. According to him, the power utilisation touches 22000 megawatts in summers but reduces to 10000 megawatts in winters, which leads to increase in tariff.

He said the LESCO was carrying out two hours load shedding for the consumers of category I and II. He said 30 percent losses are being recorded in rural areas but the situation is much better in urban areas. He said the LESCO management was working hard to overcome the ratio line losses.

He said the Company would be overcoming the issue of jerks and tripping at Manga-Raiwind Road by 10th of March.

Chairman Aptma North Zone Kamran Arshad said 70 percent industrial load of APTMA members has reduced in the Northern zone from 408000 to 116000 megawatts per hour. According to him, the Regionally Competitive Energy Tariff (RCET) is an urgent need of the hour.

Senior Vice Chairman Asad Shafi said the availability of electricity is more than the availability of gas in the country, but there is a dire need of making the electricity cost effective for the industry.
