Marcelo Claure joins Shein as the new group vice chairman

Shein investor Marcelo Claure who previously served as CEO of Softbank, and then joined Shein in January as chairman of Shein Latin America has been hired as the new group vice chairman of the discount clothing company.

Claure oversaw the launch of Shein Marketplace in Brazil, as well as the £123.2m investment in localizing the business’s Brazil manufacturing operations. As group vice chairman, he will work with Shein chief executive Chris Xu and executive chairman Donald Tang, while continuing to work on the Latin America arm.

Claure founded wireless distribution and services company Brightstar back in 1997. In 2014, the company was sold to Softbank, and Claure was appointed CEO and chairman of telecommunications business Sprint.

Claure looks forward to working with the talented Shein team as the company delivers on its mission to make the beauty of fashion accessible to all. He said he was attracted to Shein both as an investor and operator, because of its unique business model and how it empowers designers and local suppliers in communities around the world.
