New spider silk production hub established in Vietnam

Kraig Biocraft confirmed the acquisition of a new facility designed to produce recombinant spider silk in Vietnam’s Silk Capital, Lam Dong Province.

The new production center is strategically located in the core of Vietnam’s thriving silk economy and is expected to become the primary locus for the company’s increasing spider silk manufacturing activities in 2024.

The reason behind selecting this particular location correlates directly with a planned expansion in silk production set for spring 2024. The company also recently disclosed its MoU with the Vietnam Sericulture Association (VSA), Bao Loc City/Vietnam, and Lam Dong Agro-Forestry Research and Experiment Center (LAREC), Buôn Ma Thuột/Vietnam, running concurrent with the process of securing this new facility.

Additionally, the facility is anticipated to act as the main venue for collaboration between Kraig Biocraft Laboratories, Inc., Ann Arbor, MI/USA, the VSA, and LAREC to facilitate advancements in Vietnam’s sericulture industry. It is also expected to double as the collection and distribution hub for the yielded recombinant spider silk fibers, yarns, and fabrics.

Centrally located in Vietnam’s largest silk-producing region, the facility offers easy access to fresh mulberry, proficient sericulture personnel, and cocoon reeling utilities.

Preparations are underway for the spring production trials and the launch of Kraig Lab’s new BAM 1 hybrid. With the new facility set to support these milestones, the company is looking forward to the commercialization of their cost-effective, eco-friendly spider silk.
