Boulder JCC is excited to offer an exceptional opportunity to become an amateur weaver or refine technique!
In the next few weeks, we will be presenting three different series of multi-session workshops.
Yarn is included in the kit fee, as is a loom, which can be taken home during the session so that you can complete your project. The looms are being provided through the generosity of the Schacht Spindle Co – a company that’s just down the street from the JCC and which has been making beautiful wooden looms for over 50 years.
The three workshops are:
Weaving Workshop – Rigid Heddle I
Tuesdays, October 5, 12, and 19, 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM
In class, students will learn the basics of weaving, including loom setup, weaving terminology, how to read a rigid heddle weaving draft, and, of course, how to weave! Students will create a woven sampler using a plain weave and various patterns using a pick-up stick.
Weaving Workshop – Color and Weave
Tuesdays, November 2 and 9, 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM
In this project-based class, students will weave a scarf while learning to make various patterns by changing how color is used in the warp and weft. This class will also go over new warping techniques that allow for easy color shifts!
Creating patterns with color unlocks endless weaving possibilities, pushing your weaving to the next level.
Weaving Workshop – Clasped Warp
Tuesday, December 7 and 14, 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Learn how to create brand new patterns on your rigid heddle loom by shifting color in your warp during the warping process! This technique opens the door to a large variety of new patterns in your weaving, bringing an organic element to the structure of weaving. Create a beautifully soft scarf with Sun Valley’s amazing merino and cashmere blend yarn. In class, we will also cover a variety of fringe finishing techniques and how to best show off your final piece.
