Organic Cotton in World’s first-ever biodegradable shoes collection

Orba has announced World’s first-ever biodegradable shoe collection that is fully biodegradable and leaves no trace behind. Orba is a New Zealand-based company striving to promote sustainability in the World. The company is using certified organic cotton for laces, embroidery, and woven labels.

Every year the global fashion industry produces over 20 billion shoes that use synthetics, with little regard for the sustainability of the materials sourced, the wellbeing of the people involved, or how these products will impact the environment after disposal. Shoes that use any synthetics take from the earth and never give back. However, Orba shoes are designed to biodegrade, so you can feel good knowing that when you are ready to say goodbye, your shoes will return to Nature, going back into the soil they came.

All components and materials are designed and crafted to biodegrade and meet the relevant ISO standards for casual footwear, including abrasion and slip resistance, flexibility, and tear strength. The materials used for this collection are:

  • Sole: Smoked Natural Rubber, Rice Husk Ash & Coconut Oil
  • Upper: Flax Canvas, Kenaf (Hemp), Ramie (Thistle)
  • Footbed: Cork, Coconut Husk, Latex & Agave Sisal
  • Reinforced Heel & Toe: Bio-plastic
  • Laces: Certified Organic Cotton with Cellulose Aglets
  • Adhesives: Water-based Adhesive & Primer
  • Stitching Embroidery & Woven Labels: Certified Organic Cotton
  • Foams: Open Cell Natural RubberThe new collection is not only the World’s first-ever collection of biodegradable shoes. These shoes are also crafted to be soft and comfortable for the wearers.
