Otrium launches garment refurbishment and repair program

Following a successful pilot scheme run in collaboration with Bleckmann’s Renewal Workshop the digital fashion outlet Otrium has launched a garment refurbishment and repair program for damaged returns.

Otrium is a Dutch fashion tech company that operates an online platform to help fashion brands efficiently manage their excess inventory, which is a common challenge in the fashion industry. By providing a platform for brands to sell surplus stock, they can reduce waste and recoup some of their losses.

Most of the returns that Otrium receives can be easily restored and put back on sale revealing company sources but in a few cases, the returned items are damaged. An official of the firm said preventing waste is an important part of Otrium’s DNA. The scheme has been launched to reduce the number of these garments that might ultimately end up in landfills or destroyed.

After a pilot project conducted in partnership with Bleckmann and their Renewal Workshop team in which 1000 garments and shoes were refurbished each month; the fashion brand is certain it now repaired the majority of damaged returns and put them back into circulation.”
An official of the company explained that since Otrium deals with hundreds of high-end labels on the platform, it needed an efficient solution tailored to the needs of a wide range of products – from shoes and coats to bags. The Renewal Workshop team has proved its skills and capability to do this job, he added.

Bleckmann’s Vaayu carbon-tracking software revealed a refurbished return sold on Otrium avoids 2.760kg of carbon emissions and 69g of waste. The data also showed that 70 percent of the renewed Otrium stock had been sold within seven weeks.
