Pakistan’s textile & apparel exports rise 25.53% in FY2021-22

The value of textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 25.53 per cent during recently concluded fiscal 2021-22 (July-June) over last fiscal 2020-21. During the period, Pakistan earned $19.329 billion from textile and apparel exports, compared to exports of $15.399 billion in 2020-21, according to latest data from Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

Category-wise, knitwear exports rose by a sharp 34.23 per cent year-on-year to $5.120 billion during the period, while exports of non-knit readymade garments were up 28.75 per cent to $3.904 billion.

Among textiles, cotton yarn exports increased by 18.67 per cent to $1206.838 million in 2021-22, as against exports of $1016.970 million made during 2020-21. Exports of cotton fabric also rose by 26.91 per cent and were valued at $2.437 billion during the period under review. Bedwear exports jumped by 34.23 per cent to $3.292 billion during the period, the data showed.

On the other side, synthetic fibre imports increased 18.07 per cent year-on-year to $742.802 million, while imports of synthetic and artificial silk yarn rose 34.01 per cent to $878.756 million during 2021-22.

Meanwhile, the value of textile machinery imports by Pakistan increased significantly by 29.13 per cent year-on-year to $764.441 million during the period.

In fiscal 2020-21 ending June 30, textile and garment exports from Pakistan increased by 22.94 per cent to $15.399 billion over $12.526 billion exports in the previous fiscal. In fiscal 2018-19, the value was $13.327 billion. The impressive growth in textile related exports and imports shows fast recovery of Pakistan’s textile and apparel sector after the COVID-19 pandemic.
