Taiwan is not a rival to mainland China but has emerged as a major player in eco-friendly synthetic yarns and fibers, functional textiles, and technical textiles. In response to global trends, Taiwan’s textile industry has embraced innovation and sustainability.
Its companies have developed eco-friendly textiles, recycled materials, and advanced production techniques to reduce environmental impact. This year 17 Taiwanese companies were selected by the Taiwan Textile Federation to participate in the Fashion World Tokyo at Taiwan Select booth A27-30 to showcase Taiwan’s innovative textiles in the fashion wear and athleisure bags.
Taiwan’s fashion industry is experiencing a paradigm shift as sustainability takes center stage, according to the Taiwan Textile Federation.
“The textile sector, a crucial component of fashion, is transforming a more environmentally and socially responsible future.
One of the companies, Evershinief, introduced a model carbon zero t-shirt. The raw materials of the Carbon Zero collection include Tencel fibers with no other chemical substances added or produced during fabric processing. The fabric can be naturally degraded in the soil and is also certified as ‘carbon neutral’ and engineered for long-lasting natural comfort.
Another participant is Abacell who produces “Abacell- Manila Hemp Paper Yarn. Utilizing traditional Japanese Washi paper techniques and over 60 years of paper-making experience Abacell presents an innovation, bridging the gap between the paper and textile industries. Abacell combines both benefits from Abaca and Washi’s paper. It is light, highly durable, breathable, UV resistant and anti-bacterial.
Another exhibitor Bellmark specializes in developing sleeping bags with eco-friendly materials, recycled nylon from waste fishing nets, as well as recycled polyester from oyster shells and bottles. Their parent and child sleeping bags make both parties enjoy camping fun by using identical bags.
Everest’s recycled fishnet nylon yarn, yarn-dyed intelligent memory fabric is sustainable, shapeable, and recoverable. The designs are various. It can be woven in plain, twill, dobby, jacquard, one face or double face. And the hand feels soft and smooth just like silk. Some processing is made, enabling the fabrics not only to fashion but also to have function.
Sustainable fashion textiles are revolutionizing the industry by putting eco-friendly materials at the forefront of innovation. New types of fabrics made from recycled materials, organic cotton, and biodegradable fibers are becoming the ‘go-to’ choice for fashion designers.
The Taiwanese textile industry has developed into a leading global supplier of sustainable and functional textiles, and textile-related products in virtually every end use available today and those planned for tomorrow.
