Origin Materials and Solvay have joined hands for the zero-carbon car of the future, including textile components and others.
Origin Materials believes its patented technology platform, which turns inexpensive, sustainable wood residues into carbon-negative materials, will help revolutionize the production of a wide range of end products, including clothing, textiles, plastics, packaging, car parts, tires, carpeting, and toys.
Textiles are no more limited for use as apparel clothing but not the only purpose of textiles with the rapid changes in the socio-economic structure of our society. Textiles are used in several minor known forms and less transparent technical areas. Automotive textiles are one of them. It is estimated that an average family car contains about 12-14kg of textiles. The most significant car-producing region is Western Europe, which consumes 1, 50,000 tons per annum of textile for the automotive industry. The second and third largest markets for automotive textiles are the USA and Japan. Two-thirds of textile is used for interior trim: seat covers, roof, door liners, and carpets. The remainder goes to the other parts of the automotive.
Origin Materials is a leading carbon-negative materials company, and Solvay is a global leader in chemicals and materials. The two believe the newly developed materials will be in high demand.
It undertakes a massive international effort to decarbonize its supply chains, searching for the “zero-carbon” car. Solvay and Origin Materials aim to provide the automotive industry with drop-in ready materials solutions to enable the industry’s low-carbon transition.
