US imports of textiles & garments were up in November

Overall imports of textiles and garments by the United States were up in the month of November, but were down from Pakistan.

US textile and apparel imports grew 1.5 percent in November 2023 and amounted to 6.9 billion square meter equivalent (SME) compared to 6.8 billion SME in the same month of 2022.

However, imports from Pakistan in November 2023 dropped 6 percent over the similar month of 2022 to 282.4 million SME.

Imports from Mexico reported the highest increase at 79.8 percent year on year to reach 443.9 million SME, according to data of the Office of Textiles and Apparel of the US Department of Commerce (OTEXA).

Imports of textiles and clothing also rose 9.5 percent in the reporting month from China and stood at 2.62 billion SME as compared to 2.4 billion SME in the comparable month of 2022.

Imports from Vietnam too expanded 9 percent or to 445.3 million SME in November 2023. But those from India increased slower at 3.9 percent and totaled 713.2 million SME

Between January and November 2023, US textile and garments imports declined 13.8 percent over a year ago period to 85.8 billion SME.
