US upland cotton sales up 45%, Pima down 51% this Week: USDA

According to the latest USDA report, US Upland cotton sales saw a significant increase of 45% during the week, totaling 210,500 running bales. This surge in sales can be attributed to strong demand from several countries, including Vietnam, China, and Pakistan, who continue to be major importers of US cotton.

The uptick in Upland cotton sales is a positive development for the cotton industry, especially as the global market remains dynamic with shifting demand patterns and economic conditions.

On the other hand, Pima cotton sales experienced a notable decline of 51%, with only 10,900 bales sold during the same week. The drop in Pima cotton sales is attributed to decreased demand from key markets, which has contributed to a slowdown in export shipments.

This downturn is concerning for the premium Pima cotton segment, as it typically commands higher prices due to its superior quality.

Despite the challenges in Pima cotton sales, overall US cotton exports have shown resilience, with Upland cotton performing particularly well.

The USDA’s weekly report reflects ongoing market shifts and highlights the diverse factors influencing cotton trade globally. It also underscores the importance of staying adaptable in a market affected by both global supply chain changes and regional consumer needs.

These trends in both Upland and Pima cotton markets will likely impact global cotton trade dynamics, as the industry continues to navigate challenges while capitalizing on emerging opportunities.
