It was revealed earlier this week that Pakistan and Uzbekistan were both ready to lock down a preferential trade agreement and cooperates in the shipping, textile, engineering, and information technology sectors. Now, Taking the business further, during a meeting of joint working on the implementation of the ‘Trans-Afghan railway project’. The meeting was told that the private sector is quintessential for bilateral trade. The Uzbek side invited a business delegation from Pakistan to organize a joint exhibition in Tashkent in June.
President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev had a very detailed discussion with Razak Dawood, Pakistan’s Adviser on Commerce and Investment. He is also leading Pakistan’s delegation to Uzbekistan. As stated in the official statement, both countries discussed matters related to economic cooperation. Both countries wish to accelerate the trade relations to a new successful level which can be done through streamlining bilateral phytosanitary standards, enhancing Banking Cooperation, working on rail and road connectivity matters, and establishment an off-dock terminal.
‘Trans-Afghan railway project’ will particularly be very beneficial for the countries through economic development and business point of view. The proposed 573km long railway link will be laid from Peshawar to Kabul and from Kabul to Uzbekistan via Mazar-e-Sharif. Estimated 27 stations, 912 artificial constructions, and seven tunnels will be established to facilitate cargo movement.
The possibility of establishing a joint cargo company by the private sector was also discussed as it can reduce communication issues. The revival of the joint business council was also taken under consideration and concluded that bilateral engagements like inter-governmental commission will be held routinely.
