Six Vietnamese garment manufacturers took part in the recently concluded Apparel Textile Sourcing Canada 2023 exhibition held in Toronto, from August 21-23.
Two companies, Viet Vuong and Vietnam Export Garments showed products in their stall, while the Vietnam Trade Office in Canada showcased garments of four other Vietnamese companies.
The Canadian garment market has a consumption capacity of US $10 billion per annum and Vietnam’s share in the apparel export pie is small or just 12 percent, but growing at a very fast rate.
Vietnam’s textile and clothing shipments to Canada totaled $1.8 billion in 2022, a staggering 41.2 percent year-on-year growth, and has also overtaken Bangladesh to take second spot, with China taking the first spot.
“There is a trade treaty called Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), but Vietnamese companies have not been able to take full advantage of this trade deal,” media reports stated.
The Vietnam Trade Office in Canada is providing information about the market in Canada and also on the CPTPP, to help garment exporters take advantage of the trade treaty.
