UK and Pak researchers come together to uphold Pakistan’s textile industry

Zero Waste & Low Carbon Footprint
The climate change is getting worse day by day and the side effects that it is brining with itself is going to be the cause of our demise in the near future if we don’t take the necessary steps to put a stop to it. Therefore, to design a a circular economy business model with zero waste, the British Council funded a Texonomy workshop which was inaugurated virtually by Mr. Mike Nithavrianakis, Deputy High Commissioner of Great Britain and Trade for Pakistan. 40 researchers from the UK & Pakistan are participating in the 3 day workshop.

Top scientists from the UK are working alongside The Northumbria University and LUMS, in partnership with UP-SIGN to come up with sustainable innovative solutions that will help country’s textile sector in overcoming the challenges posed by the global climate condition. To conserve the cotton supply chain, finding the solution to preserve water and soil is necessary. Moreover, utilizing such cotton seeds that require less water and are pest and disease resistant can be the solution to such a big problem.

40% Jobs in Pakistan stems from the country’s textile industry therefore, the officials should focus on bringing about a change that will ensure the production premium quality products with a low carbon footprint.
